I was the Senior Prefect of Special Science School, Abagana and the President, Students Christian Movement during my session.( 2008-09) in Secondary school. I spent three years as a boarder.
Girls schools were created to enhance the academic focus of our young girls by separating them from opposite sex to avoid premarital sex.
However, these kinds of institutions were created with good intent but they lacked the basic necessity needed to run institution filled with teens; SUPERVISION and GOOD MANAGEMENT.

Back then In my school, we had no one living with us in the school dorms, just one teacher who lives like a mile away from us. The prefects were made to handle the school affairs on their own which the S.P reports to the Principal every Monday. In fact as far as you are a senior student, you have the privilege to do anything you want (including leaving the school premises provided you're not caught on the road without exit permit by the principal)

How do you now expect evil not to grow in such environment esp lesbianism, when young students are left to depend on their school mothers and senior neighbors for protection against unnecessary punishments? No one to handle urgent issues in school. No bus for emergencies then, nothing! No one to save the junior ones from any form of bullying, except the few spirited prefects...
Prior to gaining admission into the school, I made up my mind not to have anyone as my school mother. I was trained in an Anglican Children's Ministry, and I started preaching in our prayer center as a primary school girl.

Unlucky lesbians were caught,  flogged, embarrassed and sent away from school. I felt for them seriously, but then, I never had any power to save them. My question is "Did it help them to stop it"? No but it made them more careful when they want to do it...  they continued with the life into higher institutions...

As the 1st prefect of my session back then, I really got many cases on my desk about lesbianism. This helped me understand lesbians more.
I was opportune to have a chat with some of them. I saw young girls that needed help, I saw innocent girls from good home who unfortunately fell a victim. I spoke to some and advised some of them. We had some preachers come to speak to us then from UNIZIK. Some were saved, while some continued with their lifestyle.


WHAT SHOULD BE DONE?
1. I will want the government to really get a means to supervise their same sex boarding schools. They should not build what they cannot manage.

2. There is a need for psychologists to be in all the boarding schools to help in the rehabilitation of any one caught in the act. Sending them away doesn't solve it, but it worsens it, because they will leave to continue the act in a new environment. Flogging is never the solution even for parents.

3. There should be a strong sensitization in our boarding schools especially the ones in grass root levels.

4. Teachers should be sensitized too.

5. The issue of school mother should be looked into though i was lucky to find a good one even when i didn't cling to her that much.

6. Mothers should really sensitize their young girls before sending them out to boarding schools. Speak to them of it. Don't assume they will not fall a victim.

7. Try to know who is close to them in school and who they introduced as their school mother or friend. Make secret inquiries about them from your daughter's school mates when you go on visit.

8. There shouldn't be just prefects but teachers quarters or rooms in each dormitories.
Note: some teachers are lesbians too.

9. There should be prayers organized regularly

10. Rehabilitation centers should be built and equipped with Strong psychologists to help young ones whom are faced with any character problems, not sending them away.
No! As a psychologist, I believe in BEHAVIOUR MODIFICATION, HOPE, PATIENCE, FAITH WITH GOD.
