Time Magazine Named Donald Trump 'Person of the Year'. Here’s Why!

In a video set to a solemn soundtrack, Time introduced its Person of the Year 2016, President Donald Trump, as “President of the Divided States of America.

Trump was an unavoidable choice for Time, whose Editor in Chief, Nancy Gibbs, described the pick as: “The individual who has had the most influence on events, for better or for worse.”
It would be “hard to argue that anyone had had more influence than Donald Trump over the events of this year,” Gibbs added.
Donald Trump has described what he started as a movement, and Time magazine added in its article that “Trump’s victory represents a long-overdue rebuke to an entrenched and arrogant governing class,” before returning to pointing out all the criticisms of the United States’ new President.

Trump is seen as a controversial figure. Supporters view him as a hero who will make good on his promise to “Make America Great Again,” while detractors have lavished heated criticism on him and his policy proposals, including claims that he is “literally Hitler.”

The New York native’s victory was unexpected, given heavy coverage of his faults in the mainstream media as well as his political inexperience. Major polls underestimated Trump’s popularity in predicting a decisive victory for his opponent Hillary Clinton,

Despite the worries of a large portion of the electorate, Trump’s actions since he won the election on Nov. 8 have generated some quick returns. US stock markets after the election reached a historic high, and Trump’s intervention with US air conditioner maker Carrier kept around 1000 jobs in the US. Just recently, President Trump announced that Softbank of Japan is investing 50 billion dollars in the US economy.

President Trump took office on January 20th, but in Time’s video interview he asks that people start judging him from the day he won the election. He says this is because of the rise in the stock market and business agreements the author of “The Art of the Deal” is already striking.
